The Venture Fellow will play a crucial role in the early stages of startup creation. This
part-time internship is designed for individuals who are eager to learn and contribute to the
fast-paced world of digital health startups.

Our studio is dedicated to creating and nurturing startups that aim to revolutionize the healthcare sector. By joining us, you'll be part of a dynamic team working on groundbreaking projects that have the potential to improve healthcare outcomes significantly.

Role Overview

As a Venture Fellow, you will play a crucial role in the early stages of startup creation. This part-time fellowship is designed for students or recent graduates who are eager to learn and contribute to the fast-paced world of digital health startups. We value curiosity, collaboration, and a strong focus on producing tangible results. Key Responsibilities

  • Conducting primary and secondary research to gather valuable data and insights.
  • Analyzing research results to identify trends, opportunities, and challenges.
  • Testing assumptions through practical application and experimentation.
  • Collaborating with a diverse team to contribute to the development of startup ideas.
  • Participating in a one-week in-person session in Greensboro, engaging directly with healthcare professionals.
  • Assisting in various aspects of the startup creation process under the guidance of leading experts.

Qualifications and Interests

  • Prior work experience is advantageous, but not mandatory.
  • A keen interest in improving healthcare outcomes and digital health innovations.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • A mindset geared towards learning, creativity, and producing results.

Compensation and Timeline

  • This fellowship offers a competitive pay rate of $18/hour, roughly 10 hours/week.
  • The fellowship's duration is a 3-phase program with milestones at each phase.
    • Phase 1 (3 months): Learning and collaborating with the Venture Studio team to discover, test, and pitch business ideas as venture-backable startups.
    • Phase 2 (~3 months): Operate and further advantage startup while the Venture Studio spins out as a standalone entity and hires new venture leadership.
    • Phase 3 (3+ months): Integrate with venture team to transition learnings and continue building startup through assumption testing and de-risking activities.
  • Phase 1 is 3 months, with the possibility to continue into phases 2 and 3 upon milestone completion and interest


  • Bi-weekly meetings will be held remotely
  • Sprint Week (leading to pitches) will be in person in Greensboro, NC.
  • There may be additional opportunities to collaborate in person, in Greensboro, NC.


  • Direct involvement in the startup creation process alongside the venture experts from High Alpha Innovation and Eshelman Innovation.
  • Exposure to the process of building startup products from the ground up.

  • Unique learning experience through a lecture series on 0-1 startup creation, covering vital topics such as Customer Discovery, Workflow and App Design, the Business of Healthcare, and Startup Product Management.
